Big Dominguez Campground is nestled among ponderosa pine, cottonwood trees and willows, next to the Dominguez Canyon Wilderness Study Area and the Uncompaghre National Forest. Beautiful red canyon country surrounds you with opportunities for hiking and horseback riding. Big Dominguez Creek runs through the campground year round and is very popular for fishing. The area provides valuable wildlife habitat for desert bighorn sheep, deer, elk, mountain lion, black bear, wild turkey and chukar. Off-highway vehicles and mountain bikes are NOT allowed in the adjoining wilderness study area, however, there are areas nearby that are open to such activities.
