Description

The Tatshenshini and Alsek Rivers have their headwaters in the extremely wild and rugged regions of northwest British Columbia and the Yukon. Their corridors and tributaries connect a vast wilderness area composed of adjoining parks and preserves in Alaska and Canada that is more than 60,000 square miles in area, making it the largest protected international ecological unit in the world. It also contains the largest non-polar ice field in the world, the highest coastal mountain range in the world, and the only completely protected large river drainage system in North America. In recognition of its extraordinary scenic and wildlife values, the area was proclaimed a World Heritage Site in 1994. For those interested in photography, the Tatshenshini and Alsek offer great opportunities to photograph wildlife, icebergs, and Alaska's incredible landscape.

The river trip begins in Kluane National Park in Canada's Yukon, winds through the Tatshenshini-Alsek Wilderness Provincial Park in British Columbia, and ends in Alaska's Glacier Bay National Park. The spectacular landscapes make it one of the most visually exciting river expeditions in North America. We meet in Haines, Alaska, the evening prior to departure. The cost includes ground transportation from Haines, Alaska to the put-in, and air transportation to Juneau, Alaska at the end of the trip. We provide all of the camping gear, including tents and sleep kits, as well as delicious meals and non-alcoholic beverages. A detailed trip sheet is available on request.
