Description

Lion Lake is a little gem if you’re looking to take your family fishing and picnicking. The lake is 35 acres and is 1 mile from Hungry Horse, Montana, just off U.S. Hwy. 2, making access extremely easy. Maybe that’s why Lion Lake receives more angler days/acre (3,304 angler days in 1998) than any of the other 509 lakes in northwest Montana. Or maybe it’s because excess rainbow trout brood up to 8 pounds are periodically stocked. The lake is popular with locals and tourists for its put-and-take rainbow and cutthroat trout fishery that helps alleviate pressure on native bull trout and Westslope Cutthroat Trout populations. The lake was chemically treated in 1992 with rotenone to remove stunted perch and pumpkinseeds that were illegally introduced and restocked with trout making this a very popular and heavily fished lake. Please help us by doing your part and report "bucket biologists”. Transporting live fish is illegal in Montana.
