Description
Starting from various put-in points west of the town of Salmon, rafters will quickly drift into the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area, a vast, federally protected area of forested mountain hills and narrow gorges. Wild animals from river otters to bighorn sheep roam this area freely. Side trips to hot springs and hiking trails break up the trip, as do frequent exciting rapids, although none as technical as those to be found on the Middle Fork.
Trips typically last from five to seven days, since there is no access to roads within the center of the wilderness area. Put in points are near Salmon; take out spots are within a few hour’s drive of McCall.
