Description

Following completion of the transcontinental railroad northwest of Ogden, Ogden became a busy railroad hub. Union Station, built to handle the more than 100 daily trains that came through Ogden, is now mostly a structure for tourists, containing several interesting small museums.

The Wattis-Dumke Railroad Museum is a well-executed museum with exhibits explaining railroading's history. Most interesting are intricate working HO scale reconstructions of numerous railways. Outside under a covered pavilion are displays of historic diesel engines.

The Browning Firearms Museum skillfully tells the story of the development of firearms, for which John Browning was a brilliant, leading light.

The Browning-Kimball Car Museum displays classic antique cars from the early 1900's. Of note among the many fine cars displayed, is a 1931 Pierce Arrow once owned by Chicago mobsters complete with built-in gun holster. .

Union Station also has a small Natural History Museum, an art gallery with displays that change monthly, and a gift shop.
