Description

Towering eight hundred feet above the North Platte River, Scotts Bluff has been a natural landmark for many peoples, and it served as the path marker for those on the Oregon, California, Mormon, and Pony Express Trails. Scotts Bluff National Monument preserves 3,000 acres of unusual land formations which rise over the otherwise flat prairieland below.

Hours:

Scotts Bluff National Monument is open seven days a week with the exception of Thanksgiving Day, December 25, and New Years Day.

Oregon Trail Museum and Visitor Center
Summer Season* (June-August) - 8 a.m to 6 p.m.
Winter Season (September-May) -8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Summit Road Hours
Summer Season* (June-August) - 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Winter Season (September-May) - 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Trails and Picnic Area
Park trails and the picnic area are open from sunrise to sunset throughout the year.

* The Summer Season is Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

Price Details:

Private, non-commercial vehicle: $5.00
Individual - hikers or bicyclists: $3.00
Motorcycle: $3.00

Basic Directions

Visitors traveling east-west on Interstate 80 can exit at Kimball, Nebraska and drive 45 miles north on Highway 71. Follow National Park Service signs three miles west of Gering, Nebraska on Old Oregon Trail (State Highway 92 West).

Visitors following Old Oregon Trail along the North Platte River using State Highway 26 or 92, should follow the National Park Service signs.
