Situated lakeside, the town of Coeur d'Alene is at it's busiest when boaters and sun-bathers take to the shores, but there's also hiking and good golfing on offer, as well as easily accessible skiing in winter.
Trail wanders along gentle switchbacks through an old wildfire burn. Visitor will see fir and lodge pole pine among black areas with green patches. Trail then climbs out of the Left Fork of Smithie Fork to a picturesque old log cabin nestled in Smithie meadows. Visitor should look for the old mining road by the cabin. Photographers will want to keep a close eye our for "camp robbers" (blue jays) as well as deer and elk.
